Meet your leader: Noel Franus

I help good designers and design thinkers grow into leaders.

I'm Noel, head of Chalet Workshop, Franus Experience Design and the social-impact network.

For 20 years I’ve honed the fundamentals and explored the edges of experience design, as a leader within globally lauded creative agencies and as a details-obsessed UX practitioner. I know what it takes to challenge conventions, lead creative teams, and design for impact.

In prior lives, I've been VP/Experience Design Director at Crispin Porter + Bogusky (Domino's, Turkish Airlines, American Express, Aspen Dental, Best Buy, Microsoft); former chair of the IXDA Student Design Challenge in San Francisco and Helsinki; and founder of Carbon IQ, San Francisco's first user experience agency.

My work has won some nice awards, and been featured in the New York Times, CNN, MTV, BBC, ABC 20/20, PBS, Upworthy, Buzzfeed, the Associated Press and Oprah.

Why Chalet Workshop?

I've lectured extensively within the US and abroad, yet Chalet Workshop gives me the opportunity to design the ideal-state learning experiences I've always wanted to lead, in a location where I've always wanted to lead it. Right here in Boulder. Join me.

In working with Noel I learned what it really means to dive between thinking of an experience holistically and getting into the details of its parts. I learned how to set up convincing stories and communication techniques for my work to align internal teams and clients. Most importantly, I learned how to listen to and help others by guiding and leading by example, rather than delegating or directing.

Noel thinks strategic, big-picture, and puts a plan into motion. These skills don’t often go together. And he has a fantastic sense of humor.

Tenacity. Strategic thinking. Thoroughness. Candour. Depth of thinking. That’s what I’ve learned from Noel.
